According to last Audipress release (2006.1), La Repubblica confirms its position as the most read national quality daily newspaper in Italy.

With an increase of 1,5% compared to Audipress 2005.2, La Repubblica reaches more than 3 million readers for the first time (3.003.000 readers). At the same time, its closest competitor - Corriere della Sera - has recorded a readership decrease of 8,2% at 2.700.000 readers. 

The largest daily paper in Italy remains the sports daily Gazetta dello Sport with a total readership of 3.671.000.
